Out-of-Network Benefits
Your Insurance May Reimburse Part of the Cost
Many PPO and POS health plans include out-of-network mental health benefits. This means you pay Matthew directly at the session rate — and then submit a SuperBill to your insurance company to be reimbursed for a portion of what you paid.
Reimbursement rates vary by plan, but PPO policyholders often recover 50–80% of out-of-network therapy costs after meeting their deductible. HMO plans typically do not include out-of-network benefits.
Matthew provides a SuperBill after each session containing all the information your insurer needs to process a reimbursement claim.
To check your benefits
Call the member services number on your insurance card and ask: “What are my out-of-network mental health benefits for outpatient individual therapy?” Ask about your deductible, reimbursement percentage, and whether you need prior authorization.
Thrizer — Easier Reimbursement
Skip the Insurance Paperwork
Mental Wealth Solutions uses Thrizer to help clients access their out-of-network benefits without the claims hassle. Thrizer handles the reimbursement process on your behalf — you only pay your out-of-pocket portion upfront, and Thrizer collects the insurance reimbursement directly.
This means that instead of paying $225 and waiting for a reimbursement check, eligible clients may only need to pay their coinsurance portion at the time of service.
Why Private Pay
The Case for Private Pay Therapy
Choosing a private pay therapist is not just about access to a specific clinician — it is a structural decision that shapes every aspect of your care.
Confidentiality You Control
Insurance billing requires a mental health diagnosis in your permanent medical record. Private pay means your treatment history stays between you and your therapist — not your insurer, employer, or anyone who requests your records.
No Diagnosis Required
Insurance companies require a diagnosable condition to authorize sessions. Many people seeking therapy for burnout, relationship stress, or life transitions don't have — and shouldn't need — a psychiatric diagnosis to get support.
Clinician-Directed Treatment
Insurance panels dictate session frequency, treatment duration, and modality. Private pay means your clinical care is directed by you and Matthew — not an insurance reviewer who has never met you.
No Pre-Authorizations or Denials
Insurance therapy requires ongoing authorizations that can be denied, delayed, or reduced mid-treatment. Private pay eliminates that variable entirely. If you and Matthew agree on a treatment plan, it moves forward.
Premium Availability
In-network therapists carry large caseloads to offset low reimbursement rates. Private pay allows Matthew to carry a smaller caseload — which means genuine availability, faster scheduling, and more focused clinical attention.
Access Without Waitlists
In-network providers often have months-long waitlists. Matthew accepts new clients as openings become available — without the institutional delays that come with insurance-panel practices.
What's Included
What You Get Working With Matthew
Direct Access to Matthew
No intake staff, no care coordinators, no handoffs. You communicate directly with Matthew — before, during, and between sessions.
Clinically Informed Work
Matthew's R.A.V.E.S. framework provides structure across sessions — not a rigid protocol, but a consistent clinical lens for emotional regulation, relational clarity, and building resilience under pressure.
Specialized Focus
Burnout, chronic illness, transplant patient mental health, anxiety — these are not sideline specialties. They are the clinical focus of this practice, built from direct experience with these populations.
SuperBill for Reimbursement
A SuperBill is provided after each session so you can submit for out-of-network reimbursement through your insurance plan. Many PPO plans reimburse 50–80% of out-of-network therapy costs.
Common Questions
Fees, Answered Plainly
Do you accept insurance?
No. Mental Wealth Solutions is private pay only. Matthew is not paneled with any insurance networks. This is intentional — see the section above for why.
Can I use my HSA or FSA?
Yes. Health Savings Accounts (HSA) and Flexible Spending Accounts (FSA) can typically be used for therapy sessions. Matthew can provide documentation if needed.
What is a SuperBill?
A SuperBill is an itemized receipt that includes diagnostic codes, procedure codes, and clinician license information — everything your insurance company needs to process an out-of-network reimbursement claim. Matthew provides these upon request.
What if I can't afford $225/session?
Matthew maintains a limited number of reduced-fee spots for clients with demonstrated financial need. These are discussed directly and confidentially during the consultation call.
Is there a cancellation fee?
Late cancellations (less than 24 hours notice) and no-shows are charged at the full session rate. This policy respects Matthew's time and the clinical value of consistency.
How do I pay?
Payment is collected at the time of each session via credit card, debit card, or HSA/FSA card through a secure payment system.
