GAP ANALYSIS

Content Gap Analysis maps the topics and queries your competitors cover and you do not — across classical search and AI answer engines. The output is a prioritized brief list ranked by opportunity, fit with your authority, and ship effort, so the next thing you write actually closes a gap that matters.

Who it's for

Built for operators who don't have a marketing team.

  • Healthcare brands losing organic share to specific named competitors.
  • Practices whose content sits in the middle of search results pages.
  • Founders deciding which content gaps to close before quarterly planning.
What ships

Concrete artifacts. No slide-deck strategy.

Competitor inventory

A scoped inventory of your top three to seven competitors across organic, AI engines, and partner channels — with notes on which compete on credibility, which on volume, and which on price.

Topical coverage matrix

A side-by-side matrix of which topic clusters each competitor covers, how deeply, and where the gaps in your own footprint sit.

Query-level gap list

A list of specific keywords and answer-engine queries where competitors rank or are cited and you are absent — ranked by volume, intent, and the credibility you bring.

AEO-engine answer audit

Sample ChatGPT, Claude, Perplexity, and Google AI Overview queries showing which competitors get cited, the citation structure they use, and what you would need to publish to enter the citation set.

Prioritized briefs

The top ten to fifteen gaps turned into ready-to-write briefs — topic, primary query, target word count, structure, internal links, and the angle that fits your voice.

Decision memo

A one-page memo recommending which gaps to close in the next quarter and which to defer — based on competitive density, ship effort, and how each gap advances your authority map.

How it gets built

A four-step working method.

  1. Competitor scoping

A 45-minute call to name the competitors that matter — by revenue, by credibility, by who shows up in the rooms where your buyers buy.

  2. Footprint scan

A scan of organic search positions, AEO citation share, partner placements, and content volume across the scoped competitor set.

  3. Gap matrix + briefs

A matrix-and-brief deliverable inside ten business days. We walk through each ranked brief on a working call.

  4. Hand-off

Briefs hand off to your writers, our Content Creator engagement, or your content marketing team for ship.

Questions answered

Frequently asked.

Will this work if I do not have well-defined competitors?
Yes. Part of the engagement is naming the real competitors — which are sometimes not the brands you list on a slide. We look at who shows up in answer-engine responses for your high-intent queries, who your buyers compare you to in calls, and who is cited by the partners and journalists in your space.
Does this cover AI engine citations or just SEO?
Both. AI engine citation gaps often surface different competitors than SEO gaps, and they require different content structure to close. The engagement maps both.
How many gaps do you find?
It depends on the category. A mature category with strong competitors typically surfaces 40 to 80 gaps; we prioritize the top ten to fifteen as briefs and document the long tail in the matrix.
Do you also tell me what is going well?
Yes. The matrix shows your strong coverage too — that protects against accidentally cannibalizing existing rankings while closing new gaps.
Is this a one-time engagement or recurring?
Most clients run it once at the start of a planning cycle and again 90 to 180 days later. Categories with rapid AI engine shifts may need a quarterly cadence.
